Short Film Strategy Outreach
By · CommentsIt has been some time since my last post. I have been busy working on a very exciting outreach strategy that utilizes short films to start spiritual conversations.
As part of my ministry work with The JESUS Film Project (a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ) we have been testing the use of short films for outreach around the world over the last two years. With the field test that we have done we have found what worked the best in one-on-one, small group and large group settings. As a result, we have produced a DVD with 11 short films that will soon be available to purchase. My team lead a seminar a few weeks ago at the National Outreach Convention in San Diego sharing and showing how a church can use the short film DVD to reach their community.
I am excited about all the potential uses with the DVD tool. Some churches are using it for church planting and established churches are using it to reach their community. The DVD is subtitled into 9 languages too. To find out more about the Short Film Stategy visit the Global Short Film Network website.

The NEW Grove Films
By · Comments
Grove Films is a new church and ministry video download website. Their goal is to equip the church and transform the world through visual media. Grove Films was developed by a team of people behind The Grove Center for the Arts & Media. The Grove Center is a national network of artists in the Church.
Currently there are only a handful of filmmakers that have their films online, but this will continue to grow. I am very impressed with the design of their website and how easy they have made it to find films. You are able to see all the films on one page from each filmmaker when you click on the filmmaker’s name. They have sections that feature sponsored films, as well as new up and coming filmmakers. One feature that is missing is the ability to comment on a particular film. One unique aspect about Grove Films is that 10% of the sales goes to artistic grants.
If you are an up and coming filmmaker or a seasoned video producer I would encourage you to check out putting your content on their website. If you are a church or ministry looking for another source for videos you might want to consider what they have to offer.

Collide- Media Magazine Review
By · Comments
Just last week I received in the mail the first issue of Collide magazine. If you haven’t heard of Collide, it was created “to inform, influence and inspire leaders in regard to using media to serve the church body and reach the world in which we live.” The topics that the writers cover vary from visual media, music, technology and the Internet.
The staff who puts together Collide brings a wealth of experience through their years of developing media content for Igniter Media Group and the retail side Worship House.
In this issue there is a good balance of inspiring articles, product reviews and interviews with visual media producers. I am looking forward to future issues. If you haven’t already done so, you can subscribe to Collide on their website.
5 Tips Before You Purchase A Video Illustration
By · CommentsHere are 5 tips to consider before you purchase a video illustration for your church or ministry.
- Terms and Conditions- Be sure you understand all of the terms and conditions for using the video in your church or ministry. Most of the videos that are available don’t come with broadcast rights and can only be used in one location.
- Discounts and Specials- Many times the producers of the videos offer special deals and discounts for purchasing multiple videos or even offer a video for free each month. You can find a list of church video producers and distributors on the Links page.
- Creating it Yourself- It is very possible that you have some people in your church or ministry that are very capable in producing videos for you. This takes a lot of preparation and advance planning.
- How Will They Respond- Be sure that you place yourself in the shoes of those in your church or ministry to the type of video that you purchase and show. It is impossible to please everyone. Ask yourself, what response do I want my congregation or group to have to the video.
- Get Recommendations- If you go to sites like Sermon Spice and Worship House Media you can read comments and reviews under each video. This will give you an idea of what others think and the response that they have gotten using the video. Also, consider posting a comment or review after you use a video.
Video Illustration Buying Guide
By · CommentsI am in the process of writing a guide that can be used by churches, ministries and others. It would provide tips and ideas for purchasing video illustrations either by download or on DVD. What thoughts, ideas or questions you would like answered should be included in the guide? For those who provide feedback, I will e-mail you the guide once it is completed.
